Wine lovers will jump right into the film festival spirit at Bar George in Salt Lake City during two exclusive premiere screenings of On the Fringes of Tierdom - The case for Utah in the age of post-protectionist wine business.
On the Fringes of Tierdom is a documentary-style short film, written and narrated by Stephanie Cuadra, founder of Terrestoria Wine Imports, which suggests that unexplored tertiary markets such as Utah are part of the answer to mounting challenges small winegrowers face as a result of consolidated distribution across the American three-tier system.
The thirteen-minute film is based on three overlapping styles of narrative which include introspective portraits of trailblazing women winegrowers from across Italy; the narrator’s disruptive yet redeeming message about this widely disputed ‘tierdom’; and filmmaker Ester Elmaleh’s artistic depiction of an independent wine importer who has made it her mission to reshape perceptions about wine culture in a most unlikely place.
Early screening | 6:30pm
Late screening | 8:00pm
Q&A sessions with Stephanie Cuadra will follow both showings.
